Once again, I love how Conrad tends to fall into some minor happenstance that results in a major reorganizing of the magickal order of things... I'm eagerly anticipating the next book, where we will finally get some insight into Thomas and what he did.

Synopsis

Book 3: The King's Watch

Another Day, Another Mission for… The King’s Watch

Conrad needs a rest. The universe has other ideas.

Conrad had planned the perfect weekend in the English Lake District – tie up some loose ends before spending the night with his girlfriend. Simple. What could possibly go wrong?

Everything is the answer.

An innocent man is murdered to cover up magickal misdeeds, and before they can draw breath, Conrad and his partner in magickal crime-fighting, Vicky Robson, are on the trail of a Mage who hides behind dark magick to kill at a distance.

In the third book of Mark Hayden’s highly praised King’s Watch sequence, Conrad and Vicky have to unlock doors and penetrate the ancient families of the Lakeland Particular to unmask a killer with an agenda of vengeance who doesn’t care who dies on the way.

Reviews

This is an incredible example of magical world building as well as an excellent and intriguing murder mystery with an amazing and flawed pair of central protagonists and I can't wait to read the next one.

Another great part of the continually growing tapestry of the series is that, Hayden keeps the threads he's woven in the previous books and pulls on them throughout each new story allowing readers to revisit and catch up with the characters that made the prior stories such fun.
